Regarding Data Centers

The data center buildout, on the record.

Thousands of data center projects are moving through permitting, hearings and construction right now. We put them on one globe and one feed — site, operator, status, capacity — and every capacity figure we publish names the document it came from.

The map is free — it just needs an account. The feed is part of a subscription.

§ What gets tracked / the vocabulary 05

Project events

A project's life is recorded as discrete, dated events. These are the ones we recognise:

  • Permits filed
  • Permits approved
  • Planning hearings
  • Public notices
  • Construction starts
  • Capacity changes
  • Expansions
  • Stalls
  • Cancellations

Project status

Three states, applied consistently, so a site's stage is comparable across every jurisdiction we cover:

  • Operational
  • In development
  • Proposed

Where

40+ countries and all 50 US states. Over 700 US counties hold a tracked project, and 300+ of them have a wired local feed — a number we grow county by county rather than claiming the whole country at once.

§ The evidence trail / document to data point 06
  1. 01

    Snapshot

When a document surfaces — a permit filing, a hearing notice, a regulatory action — we take our own snapshot of it. The record stops depending on somebody else's page staying online.

  2. 02

    Extraction

Capacity, cost and footprint figures are lifted out of that document as structured facts, each one carrying a pointer back to the page it was read from.

  3. 03

    Linkage

Facts attach to the project, site and operator they describe. Records that turn out to be the same campus under two names are merged into one, so a single build never inflates the count twice.

  4. 04

    Attribution

23,900+ capacity, cost and footprint facts are recorded against the document they were read from, and every figure we publish is labelled reported, permitted or estimated — the claim we would rather be measured on than any other.

Early access

Start with the globe.

A free account opens the map and every site on it. The Data Center Feed is part of a Data Center Intelligence subscription while we are in early access.
